Introducing the Person into Thinking about Social Policies

Proposes introducing the individual person into thinking about conflict resolution & concomitant policy, arguing that a focus on the individual would allow barriers between disciplines to break down. Conflict resolution in general is based on the idea that a whole person & his or her environment must be considered for any resolution to be found. A shift in thinking about human needs is advocated, stating that we must educate ourselves out of adversarial behaviors & promote cooperation. Such an ideal system would begin by teaching students how to think, question, & engage in dialogue rather than learning by rote. Only then can we move to address such pressing problems as population increase, resource depletion, & environmental damage. 6 References. J. Backman
