Propaganda, legitimacy and information: Taiwan in public and internal media of the People's Republic of China (1981/82)

Abstract

Printed media in the PRC can be classified as "public", "domestic" or as "internal". Inside the PRC, "public" and "domestic" books and periodicals are available to the interested citizens without special authorization. "Internal" means that the so classified material is only accessible for entitled individuals. By analysing the contents of "public" and available "internal" material on a topic of high sensivity for the PRC, namely Taiwan, the author shows the possible criteria for classifying such material.
