The rabbit awaits the tiger: Hong Kong's view of the Peking regime
In: Issues & studies: a social science quarterly on China, Taiwan, and East Asian affairs, Band 27, Heft 7, S. 61-78
Abstract
Even before the violent suppression of the Tiananmen demonstration in June 1989, the mainland China takeover of administrative control of Hong Kong scheduled for 1997 spawned feelings of fear and helplessness among the territory's residents. Hong Kong's anxiety over its return to mainland Chinese control is based on how the Hong Kong people view the Peking government. The author examines Hong Kong people's view of the Peking regime. He points out, that although the vast majority of Hong Kong residents are themselves ethnic Chinese, the people of Hong Kong have largely adopted the conceptual framework of the traditional Western way of understanding China and its government.
