Abstract
"This commentary assesses the multifold challenges facing the Hungarian EU-Presidency in the first half of 2011. It is unique in several respects: In addition to continuing those policies initiated by its predecessors in office, Hungary has to tackle the take off of several significant EU policy initiatives, many of which are a consequence of the effects of the global financial and economic crisis as well as the crisis of the Euro. At the same time, 2011 is the first year characterized by presidencies of two new EU member states, Hungary and Poland, which offers a valuable chance to strengthen the position of all new members states both in the political circles and with regard to public opinion."
