Abstract

Political process in Bangladesh changed by a bloodless military takeover of the government under Lt.-Gen. Ershad in March 1982. Nature of the military regime. Central issue in Ershad's reform plans is the administrative decentralization, e.g. upgrading of thanas (administrative units below sub-divisions) as the basic unit of administration, economic activities etc. Poor performance on the economy in 1982.
