Dynamics of Indonesian democratisation

Abstract

What are the characteristics and problems of Indonesia's democratisation? First, it is argued here, the current elite-focused approaches are insufficient. Second, the problems of attempts at popular politics of democratisation are examined. The major current problem is the lack of democratic institutions and of the chances and the capacity for people to develop and make use of them. (DSE/DÜI)
